It's
Your Money
The largest purchase we make is our home.
However, residents are losing their homes in record numbers
due to foreclosures. Senior citizens on fixed income are
finding it difficult to pay the taxes in order to stay in
their homes. In my administration, we will work diligently
to ensure that taxes are kept as low as they can be. We will
work hard to keep fees and charges at a reasonable level.
This will be difficult to do with the financial instability
of the City's current finances and about 1/4 billion dollars
in debt; but I know we can do it. Providing a more efficient
and accountable government will enable us to improve our
finances. Making smart planning, debt reduction and real
downtown/economic development the top priorities will also
keep taxes down and fees reasonable.
Honesty in Government
My goal as Mayor is to provide Leadership
that Listens to the people. I make this promise that it will
be the people of the City of Aurora that I serve. I will
not be beholden to special interests or people who contribute
to my campaign.
Creating an honest and transparent government
is important in our goal to create an efficient government
in order to keep taxes as low as they can be and fees and
charges at a reasonable level. That is why I am going to
create a non-political, independent City Administrator. This
person will function completely free from campaign donations
and special interests, and will be fully accountable to the
people of the City of Aurora.
Neighborhood Redevelopment
Neighborhood redevelopment is important
to a healthy City. I believe that the City needs to invest
in our neighborhood's infrastructure. This means that money
will be spent on new sidewalks, roads and sewers.
Furthermore,
I believe that we need to create jobs for our residents so
they can continue to maintain their homes. My administration
will listen to the needs of our community, and focus on creating
employment opportunites that our residents need. The families
in our neighborhoods will be more stable when we begin to
provide more income for them, and then the community will
begin to improve.
Our
economic development will work to bring employment and resources
for our residents. I will advocate alternative methods of
economic development financing. These methods will not rob
our school districts of precious tax dollars they need. We
need strong school districts in our neighborhoods in order
to make them better.
